Grooming is minimal, as the breed has a short dense coat. However, breeders should inform the buyer on the exercise needs of the breed, as the Rhodesian Ridgeback has high activity levels. These dogs are unlikely to be satisfied with a few short walks a day.

Those who are familiar with the history of the breed are aware that this is the only South African breed officially recognized. Males stand about 25-27 inches at the shoulder and weigh about 75 pounds. The corresponding sizes for a female are 24-26 inches and 65 pounds.
